Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 Unlocks iOS 4.3.3

Along with Redsn0w 0.9.6RC15, the iPhone Dev Team has released a new version of Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 which unlocks iPhone 4, 3GS on iOS 4.3.3 for those who are already rely on unlock. Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 guide below. Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 supports 01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00 basebands.


STEP 1: First, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone 4 or 3GS on iOS 4.3.3. Instructions on how to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 using Redsn0w 0.9.6RC15 can be found here.

STEP 2: Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on the supported basebands using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 from Cydia. To do this:

• Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.
• Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
• Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” and touch on“Add Source” to add this repo if you haven’t already. Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

After installation is completed. Search for “ultrasn0w 1.2.3” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier.

STEP 3: Now simply restart your iPhone and voila! you should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 4 or 3GS, running iOS 4.3.2 !

The iPhone Dev Team has quickly released a new version of Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC15 which brings untethered iOS 4.3.3 jailbreak. With Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC15, you can jailbreak your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on iOS 4.3.3 and install Cydia without need to jailbreak again everytime you restart.

Full step by step guide below:

STEP 1: Download iOS 4.3.3 from here, and iTunes 10.2.2 from here.

STEP 2: Start Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC15 and point it to the official iOS 4.3.3 you downloaded above.

STEP 3: Select Install Cydia and any other options you need then hit the Next button.

STEP 4: Make sure your device is turned off and plugged into your Computer.

STEP 5: Now follow the steps on the screen to enter the DFU mode not Recovery Mode.

STEP 6: Finally sit back and have a cup of coffee then wait for Redsn0w to jailbreak your iOS device followed by a quick reboot.

iOS 5 to Introduce Over-The-Air Software Updates !

Apple is reportedly working closely with Verizon Wireless to introduce over-the-air software updates to the iPhone with its iOS 5 firmware. Starting this fall, iPhone users will be able to update their iOS software wirelessly, without having to plug the device into iTunes, or involve a computer altogether. It’s a luxury Google Android and Palm webOS users have been enjoying for some time, and Apple’s finally bringing it to iOS.

Multiple sources for 9to5Mac have revealed the feature will debut with iOS 5 and will support subsequent iOS releases. Apparently, Apple already has the technology, but doesn’t want to release it to the masses all at once. It will therefore be available only to Verizon customers initially.

Sources were unable to confirm whether or not Apple is planning a similar feature with AT&T or international iPhone carriers, though we’d assume it will eventually be rolled out to everyone.

Over-the-air iOS updates are already working well for the Apple TV, but this is obviously a Wi-Fi only device. In order to make the feature available to devices that can download data through a wireless carrier, Apple may need to negotiate deals with individual carriers.

9to5Mac noted two things the feature could mean for future iOS releases:

1. Updates are now over 600MB. Apple would have to make these smaller to get the carriers to agree to push these things as they are. We believe that Apple will make the updates much smaller by using incremental patches rather than full OS downloads

2. iTunes provides the backup to the iOS device so a failed update would need some sort of backup. We think there will be a Cloud-based backup system.

There’s no denying over-the-air iOS updates would be a handy feature, especially to those who don’t use iTunes or a computer very often. However, I’d prefer to get over-the-air syncing first.
